14.09.2013 – Erhard Hirt + DJ Zipo live duo

Erhard Hirt (guitar, electronics) + DJ Zipo (turntables/CD-players) play a rare improv duo set at the next Kölner Musiknacht at Studio 672, Stadtgarten on 14.09.2013, 22.00h. The set will consist of on the fly improvsations with no-input-mixer, guitar and manipulated records and CDs. The duo is a re-hash of a spontaneous performance that took place at ZAKK, Bremen sometiem in the 1990ies.

Musician, composer and promoter of improvised, experimental and new music. Erhard Hirt started playing blues guitar when he was 16 and for the next ten years played with jazz-oriented groups, experimental rock bands, a free jazz combo (Jazzcomunity, in Leverkusen/ Köln) and toured with blues bands (Delta Blues Band and the Matt Walsh Bluesband).
In 1978 he performed his first improvised solo concerts, following this with his own quartet including players such as Martin Theurer, Hans Schneider, Thorsten Müller, Pinguin Moschner, and Wolfgang Fuchs. In 1981 Hirt formed the String Quintet with Anne Le Baron (harp), Candice Natvig (violin), Thorsten Müller (cello) and Hans Schneider (bass) and the following year recorded his first solo guitar album.
He founded the European improvising orchestra  King Übü Orchestrü in 1984 along with Wolfgang Fuchs, Marc Charig, Guido Mazzon, Radu Malfatti, Phil Wachsmann, Alfred Zimmerlin, and others.
Beside his own musical activities he became curator for several music and art events and international exchange projects (www.cuba-cultur.de). He has been involved with film projects with Martin Cihak and Martin Klapper and Harald Busch, dance performances with Fine Kwiatkowski, performances and installations with Stephan US and Jens Brand and Helge Leiberg, multimedia and network concerts with Georg Hajdu .
New projects include collaborations with turntable artist Claus van Bebber (record: „TEFITON“ AufAbwegen) the Xtended Guitars with Hans Tammen, Nick Didkowsky and Keith Rowe and an improvising trio with Martin Theurer and Paul Lovens.

DJ Zipo [aufabwegen]

Till Kniola studierte Ethnologie in Münster und London. Seit 1992 Herausgeber des Magazins „aufabwegen“ für elektronische Musik und Noise (ab 2006 nur noch online). Seit 1996 Betreiber des Labels „aufabwegen“ mit Produktionen von internationalen Künstlern aus den Bereichen Ambient, Geräuschmusik, Klangkunst, Improv.
Enge Zusammenarbeit mit dem Künstler Asmus Tietchens (Herausgeber der Werksmonografie, gemeinsame Konzertreisen, Website). Tätig als freier Autor und Journalist (u.a. Spex, The Wire) und als DJ für Geräuschmusik/Noise.
Veranstalter fester Konzertreihen für experimentelle Musik in Münster und Köln, darüber hinaus als freier Kurator aktiv (moers festival, KlangZeit Festival, u.a.). Seit Juni 2012 als künstlerisch-wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am ZKM | Institut für Musik und Akustik tätig.
